L-Arginine and Erectile Dysfunction?

In a 1999 study published in the journal BJU International 50 men with erectile dysfunction took either 5 grams of L-arginine per day or a placebo. After six weeks, more men in the L-arginine group showed improvement compared to those taking the placebo. Though it does work more slowly, it is worth trying if you are seeking male enhancement.
For organic erectile dysfunction (ED): 5 grams per day. Taking lower doses might not be effective.

Are There Other Benefits?

Arginine also triggers the body to make protein and has been studied for bodybuilding and enhancement of sperm production. It has also been linked to an increase in libido in both men and women.

Since erectile dysfunction can be caused by a variety of factors, including aging, diabetes and other endocrine disorders, is it unreasonable to assume that L-Arginine will be effective in all cases.

It will be most effective in those men whose erectile dysfunction is a result of low levels of nitric oxide. However, optimal nitric oxide production will ensure optimum erectile function, and for many people with sexual dysfunction that is not related to these other factors, arginine supplements will ensure adequate nitric oxide levels.
