Zyrexin is a male enhancement product marketed as “the one that works”, but aren’t they all promising the same thing.
Zyrexin is supposed to last up to 24 hours and they’ll have you believe it’s changing the lives of couples around the world.
With high promises of improved sexual endurance, harder erections, and increased sex-drive about this formula, I had to take a closer look to see for myself if this product can back up its claims.
We’ll help you find out if it’s something that you’d be better off passing on.
Zyrexin can be found at retail locations like Walmart for $10.00 per bottle of 10 tablets, which seems like a pretty good deal if you’re just looking for a pill to give you an extra boost for a special night every once in a while.
Apparently, this pill is designed to work within 30-40 minutes upon taking it and its effects will last up to 24 hours. The makers of Zyrexin claim that, unlike other male enhancement supplements that you have to take as part of a daily regimen, this product’s results are more instant and you don’t have to wait 2 months to begin seeing results.
Does Zyrexin Work?
The main active ingredient within this product is a catalyst called Butea Superba. With such a name, everyone expects big things from this ingredient, even though it is a common aphrodisiac grown in Thailand.
Supposedly, this ingredient acts as a natural PDE-5 inhibitor. PDE-5 inhibitors work to treat erectile dysfunction by blocking degradative action in the smooth muscle cells lining the blood vessels supplying the corpus cavernosum of the penis. By blocking this degenerative action, you should be able to achieve longer-held, fuller erections.
From what I could find, there have only been a select few clinical trials on the ingredient. In a study conducted by the Chualongkorn University, volunteers with ED between the ages of 30 to 70 years old were given a crude preparation of the Butea Superba tubers for 3 months. According to the study, “Estimation of the sexual record indicated that 82.4% of the patients exhibited noticeable improvement,” but on the other hand, “Haematology and blood chemistry analysis revealed no apparent change.”
Such a study leaves me with more questions than actual answers – was it placebo controlled? Since the study was based on descriptive evaluations and questionnaires that the volunteers filled out, were the results real or imagined by the volunteers? If there was no change in blood chemistry, what made the study effective? How standardized was the “crude preparation” between individuals?
Until further research has been performed, I can’t help but be a little skeptical of its results.
Additional Ingredients Inside Zyrexin
Fortunately, Zyrexin comes with more than just one ingredient for improving sexual performance. It also offers a proprietary blend of the following ingredients:
Epimedium: or horny goat weed, contains chemicals which may improve blood flow and circulation. Some believe it to mimic the effects of testosterone, making it an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Yohimbe: is another aphrodisiac that may increase blood flow and may enhance nerve impulses to the penis or vagina. It is said to counteract the effects of depression medications, but this ingredient has also been linked to severe negative side effects such as an irregular heart rate, kidney failure, and heart attack.
Xanthoparmelia Scabrosa: is said to be an “herbal viagra” due to its abilities to inhibit the enzyme PDE-5, which is responsible for reducing the strength and duration of erections. However, it has not been extensively studied and it is unknown if this ingredient is effective on its own or if it merely creates a synergistic effect with other ingredients.
Ginkgo Extract: may improve blood circulation and may be able to kill bacteria and infection as well. It is known to cause some minor side effects such as stomach upset, headache, and dizziness.
Cnidium: has been a part of traditional Chinese medicine for years and may be able to improve sexual performance. Despite anecdotal evidence, there are too few studies on whether or not this ingredient can produce reliable results.
Velvet Bean: contains the chemical L-dopa which acts as a precursor to the chemical dopamine, a hormone that may create a relaxing effect on the body.
L-Arginine: is an amino acid that acts as a precursor to Nitric Oxide in the blood stream. Nitric Oxide causes the blood vessels to relax and widen, improving circulation and flow.
I feel that I should warn consumers that proprietary blends are rarely a good thing – after all, how do you know if the ingredients are in the safest, most effective concentrations?
What About Side Effects?
From the study mentioned above, Butea Superba had no reported side effects or toxicity. However, in a toxicity experiment performed on rats, high dosages were known to result in a decrease in testosterone (not a good thing if you want to improve your performance).
The conflicting studies make me wonder if the human trials only used low dosages of the actual herb and if the resulting “improvements” were a result of the placebo effect rather than any particular merit of the ingredient itself.
Either way, you’ll want to approach this supplement with caution, and keep in mind that the other ingredients in this formula may result in negative side effects as well.
I think that the low price is the primary selling factor of this product. If you’re not sure it’s going to work for you, you won’t be wasting too much money at only $10.00 a bottle.
The other thing I like about this product is its claims to work within 30 minutes instead of having to wait several weeks to experience the full results of the product.
First, I’m a little conflicted about the mechanism of action. Supposedly Zyrexin works by blocking a chemical that has a degenerative effect on the blood vessels supplying the penis. From my personal experience, stopping degeneration needs to be done consistently over a long period of time, not just whenever you feel like having sex. I don’t believe that this method is going to get you deliverable results.
Secondly, this product is advertised to work within 30 minutes (which is a good thing), but I don’t believe that this method of delivery is going to be more beneficial to you in the long run than taking a supplement that takes a few weeks for you to experience maximum results. Although you don’t need to take Zyrexin daily, you will have to plan when you take it. Therefore, sex can’t be a “spur of the moment action” but rather needs to be decided upon and may lose some of its romantic appeal.
Does it Increase Size?
No. Although Zyrexin is said to improve sexual performance, it is not an enlargement pill.
As mentioned earlier, Zyrexin is extremely affordable if you only want to buy a small sample through stores such as Walmart. GNC also sells Zyrexin for $39.99 for a 30 tablet bottle. However, if you want to go straight to the manufacturers and have access to the guarantee, then expect to pay the following prices:
2 Bottles: $29.95
Buy 2 Get one Free $59.95
Buy Three and Get two Free: $89.95
There is a “iron-clad” money back guarantee when you order from Zyrexin.com. Supposedly if you don’t like your results for any reason, you can return the bottle within 60 days of purchase for a full refund of the bottle price. The website does not say if this covers any additional unopened bottles.
To contact customer support, you can call by phone at 1-800-301-4027 or 1-800-301-3257.
Who makes Zyrexin
Zyrexin was developed and manufactured by Superbalife International, a nutraceutical company in Los Angeles that specializes in men’s health products. Their products are widely distributed throughout the US – but according to the Better Business Bureau, the company itself receives an F (on a scale of A to F).
Why the poor review?
In the last 3 years, the company had received over 26 complaints, most of them about unauthorized credit or debit card charges, false advertising, and failure to honor their money back guarantee. Many consumers complain that their products do not work as advertised, and some individuals only receive a partial refund for the product.
If I were you, I’d be a little careful when ordering from their official website.
Judging from the negative reviews and the proprietary blend, I can safely assume that Zyrexin is not a reliable supplement for improving sexual performance. Although it may work for a select few individuals, there are countless other products with more impressive ingredient lists and delivery methods that are going to deliver long-term results that will be a much better expenditure of your time and money.
